Wenche Myhre

Norway's very own Wenche Myhre is turning 80, and she'll be celebrating this big day with the audience at Unity Arena in Fornebu on February 18, 2027. And you're invited to the birthday party!

She is accompanied by the Armed Forces Staff Band, conducted by Lars Erik Gudim, a large choir, a rock band with a pop choir, and, of course, her boyfriend Anders Eljas on piano.

Wenche is one of our most beloved artists. She was already performing on stage at the age of 6. At 13, she won a talent contest, and her prize was a record deal. Her first single, “Åh, det er søndag,” was, of course, a hit, and the rest is history.

Wenche is also a celebrated artist outside Norway’s borders: in Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, and not least Germany, where she has also represented her country in the international Grand Prix final. She has hosted her own TV show for several years, “Das ist meine Welt,” and her episodes are still frequently rebroadcast. In recent years, Wenche has spent months on the charts in Germany with new material.

Here in Norway, we remember songs like “Let Me Be Young,” “Our Cat,” “Winter and Snow,” “66,” “Give Me a Cowboy for a Husband,” “Oh-oh-oh, Sheriff,” “A Quick Little Snowflake,” “You and Me and the Two of Us,” “We Live,” “One Night Gone By,” and many more. They have long since become part of the collective heritage for several generations here at home, and Wenche’s songs have accompanied us like a soundtrack through the big and small moments of our lives.

Of course, her partner Anders Eljas is also part of this all-star lineup, playing the keys. Anders played keyboards with ABBA in the ’70s and ’80s. He also arranged their musicals, “Chess” and “Kristina från Duvemåla,” and has conducted most of our Nordic symphony orchestras, as well as the London Symphony Orchestra in connection with “Chess.” He has worked with many of our Swedish, Norwegian, and international artists.

Everything is set for an evening that will take us through the full range of emotions. There will be ballads, “rock and roll,” smiles, and laughter—but also touching moments. Wenche Myhre is one of our greatest performers, and few are able to strike all the right notes with the same natural elegance and precision.
